Austin City Council Member Wants an Investigation Into Police Training

An Austin City Council member is pushing for an investigation into police cadet classes over department racism allegations. Councilwoman Natasha Harper-Madison announced a resolution calling for an outside probe of the department, citing recent claims a retired assistant chief used racist language. The resolution contains built-in milestones for the investigation to meet that would allow all upcoming cadet classes to proceed as planned. Only one class would be disrupted, although the police union suggests otherwise. The Council voted on the item last night and approved it unanimously.
