Today marks eight years since a fertilizer plant explosion rocked the small Texas town of West. On April 17th, 2013, the community just north of Waco was rocked by an explosion that killed 15 people, including ten first responders, and flattened hundreds of buildings. The power of the explosion was equivalent to that of a magnitude two-point-one earthquake, and the U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board called it "one of the most destructive incidents ever investigated" in its final report. In response to the explosion, the state passed a bill adjusting guidelines for ammonium nitrate storage facilities.
