There’s a movement by liberals across the country to defund and/or dismantle local police departments.
A number of celebrities including John Legend, Common, the Weeknd, Lizzo, Jane Fonda and others have signed onto an open letter pushing for the outlandish plan.
In Minneapolis, members of city council are vowing to “dismantle” their entire police department.
Councilman Jeremiah Ellison tweeted “we are going to dismantle the Minneapolis Police Department. And when we’re done, we’re not simply gonna glue it back together. We are going to dramatically rethink how we approach public safety and emergency response.”
Ellison is the son of Minnesota Attorney General and former Congressman, Keith Ellison. Last week, Councilman Ellison tweeted his support for Antifa rioting.
City Council President Lisa Bender says they will vote on the first steps toward dismantling the PD this afternoon.
Bender tweeted that they will replace the police “with a transformative new model of public safety.”
According to the Star Tribune newspaper, Bender says the new model will include “social workers or medics” responding to the calls that are currently being handled by police.

Bender adds “to do this kind of big work, we need a deeper, broader conversation than we’ve ever had before.We need white people like me and my neighbors to show up in a different way.
