- "Captain Marvel" just scored the biggest opening of the year
- The movie made more than $150 million for its debut
- The rest of the top 10 shows pretty low numbers
“Captain Marvel” just scored the biggest opening weekend of the year after making more than $150-million for its debut. It’s the seventh biggest opening for Marvel’s cinematic universe, and the second-biggest for a new Marvel character in a movie (behind “Black Panther”).
Meanwhile, “How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World” holds the second spot and “Tyler Perry’s A Madea Family Funeral” is in third, but obviously far behind “Captain Marvel.” The final “How To Train Your Dragon” made a little over $14-million, and Tyler Perry’s goodbye to Madea has become the third-best performing Madea film, making $12-million for a domestic total of $46 million or so.
The rest of the top ten has even lower numbers, “The LEGO Movie 2” making just below $4 million for the fourth spot. “Apollo 11” has entered the top ten in the tenth spot, making $1-point-three-million this weekend across just 405 theaters, most likely thanks to IMAX.
Here’s this weekend’s top 10 movies
- “Captain Marvel” – $153 million
