3 Dead In Austin Shooting

A former county sheriff's deputy from central Texas has been taken into custody in connection with a triple-homicide in Austin. Former Travis County Sheriff's deputy and former Bastrop County Sheriff's deputy Stephen Broderick is the prime suspect wanted in the case.  Yesterday, three people were shot dead at the Arboretum Oaks Apartments on Great Hills Trail during what investigators are calling a domestic dispute.

Police took Broderick into custody this morning after a motorist called 9-1-1 to report seeing someone suspicious walking along 290 in the Manor area. He was arrested without incident.

Elgin ISD has confirmed the victims included one current student and one former student. The district issued a statement saying they were heartbroken by the news of this senseless tragedy, and we extend our deepest condolences to the families of Willie Simmons III and Alyssa Broderick. Alyssa withdrew from Elgin ISD back in the fall. Willie was a senior and captain of the high school football team. In response to this tragedy, the district will have counselors and trained professionals available.
