Dallas Mavericks point guard Kyrie Irving declined his $43 million option to instead sign a new three-year, $119 million contract to remain with the franchise, sources with knowledge of the deal confirmed to ESPN's Shams Charania Tuesday (June 24) night.

The deal was reportedly negotiated by the Mavericks and Irving's stepmother and agent, Shetellia Riley Irving, according to Charania.

"BREAKING: Dallas Mavericks nine-time NBA All-Star Kyrie Irving is declining his $43 million player option and intends to sign a three-year, $119 million contract with the franchise, sources tell ESPN. The deal includes a player option in the 2027-28 season," Charania wrote on his X account. "Mavericks officials and Irving’s agent, Shetellia Riley Irving, negotiated the new deal that keeps Irving out of free agency. Irving locks in almost $40 million in annual salary as he rehabilitates a torn ACL, as both sides commit to each other long term."

Irving, 32, underwent successful surgery to repair a torn left knee ACL in March, ruling him out for the remainder of the regular season and postseason. The nine-time All-Star averaged 24.7 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.6 assists during the 2024-25 NBA season prior to the injury.

The Mavericks hold the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, which will air live Wednesday (June 25) night.
